COVID-19 Update: Stage 4 in Melbourne

Here’s a quick note to let you know what’s going on inside Factory Sound at the moment.

If you’re ‘tuned in’, you’ll already be aware that from 6pm on Sunday 2nd August, Stage 4 COVID-19 restrictions apply to Melbourne – which include a curfew between 8pm and 5am, a 5km radius to make your ‘one trip for one person, per household, per day’ within, and also a change to many workplaces.

For us, it means a couple of changes – but it shouldn’t make all that much difference to the way you interact with us (we hope!)

For customers outside Victoria:

No change here! If you’re in QLD, NSW, SA, TAS, NT, WA or ACT, then you’ll find no difference in the way we help you with the best gear available.

Like always, you can email or phone with an enquiry, and from there all purchases will be done in the usual fashion (ie – not face-to-face).

Our phone is on 9:30am – 6:00pm Monday-to-Friday, and emails will be attended to promptly, just like our normal operation.

Our courier company collects at around 4:30pm every weekday, so there is no change in cutoff times when organising your next box of gaffer tape, studio mic or powered speaker.

There is still great stock of digital mixing consoles, wireless microphones, studio monitors and, of course, Australia’s largest selection of genuine Neutrik connectors and Canare cable in stock.

For customers in regional Victoria:

Everything is pretty much the same as above. There is one small change to the way we operate for Regional Victoria.

No more face-to-face for six weeks.

We understand why.. to stop movement throughout Victoria and minimise the chance of spreading this coronavirus, our friends in regional Vic aren’t allowed to visit the Greater Melbourne area. It’s not that we don’t love you! In fact, we love our Mildura visitors, our Ballarat and Bendigo buddies, those who make the trek from Gippsland, the Shepparton connection and all those folk who brave a trip over the West Gate from Geelong and beyond… but for the next six-or-so weeks… it’s not on.

Please continue to call us, email, or simply place an online order and we’ll get you sorted asap.

The couriers are not stopping!

Important news for Melbourne customers:

This is the big change.

For all our regular visitors, you’ve probably guessed if you’ve been keeping an eye on the daily news conferences, but our front door is locked for now.

We won’t open it for anyone, other than authorised staff. Even then, we’re only allowing a fraction of our usual staff inside the building at any one time.

All web orders are processed by our crack-team of work-permit-enabled staff. All phone orders are packed and shipped by the same team. School purchase orders are also sorted by the in-house marvels.

In other words, you can continue to chat with us, but it must be via phone rather than face-to-face. Stay home. Let’s allow the couriers to sort the rest.

What about Click & Collect?

Well of course, that’s an option.

Do not come to the back door and imagine your order is ready. Please call first to book your slot in our contactless Click & Collect queue. You already know the number, right?

03 9922 1000

Why isn’t Dean there?

Actually, he’s not the only one. Plenty of us have been asked by Premier Dan Andrews to work from home.

below: Can you guess who repairs their moccasins with gaffer tape?

Anyone who isn’t close to the Factory Sound coffee machine (and our famous beer fridge) during the day is still contactable.

If you want Dean, just ask. Is Ben your man? Shoot him an email.

It’s all systems go, and all of us are so excited to see many parts of Australia tentatively open up.

Far from feeling oppressed or despondent because of Melbourne’s hard lockdown, we are pumped to get through and join in with the rest of Australia.

It won’t be too long until we can all breathe a sigh of relief and play the first song from side two of Abbey Road.

Until then, stay safe everyone

With love and thoughts from the whole team at Factory Sound
