Located within a couple of blocks of Portland's CBD, the Civic Hall is an important venue for Portland. Although Portland Arts Centre is the primary venue for performances, the size of Civic Hall means that it must cater for larger shows - with provision for 600+ seating in theatre style, or 350 seats cabaret style. Typical users of the hall vary from functions (weddings and school social) to regional touring shows. Not only did our solution need to provide adequate coverage (including hearing induction loop), but ease of use was extremely important, given the variety of users. Infrastructure for comms was also a requirement.
A sound, vision and communication system catering for a wide variety of client groups, including meetings and presentations, local community groups, school functions, theatre, drama, live performance, regional touring shows.
To ensure all users of this space were satisfied with the new sound system, the Front of House speakers chosen were high-quality Nexo GEOS12, with RS15 sub bass reinforcement. Stage monitoring for performers via RCF ART310A powered speakers. Vision was provided by NEC NP4100W high powered projector onto a 180" motorised screen. Other reliable brands used included Allen & Heath for the console, Shure microphones, K&M microphone stands, and TC Electronic for effects.
The custom multicore system included inputs for audio and laptop (VGA plus audio), and an induction loop was installed to ensure adequate coverage for the hearing impaired. As this was a comprehensive system and building upgrade, cables were run inside conduit while the venue's floor was being replaced, working with the builders within a tight timeline.
