Genelec 8341AP is a versatile member of the SAM™ smart active 3-way monitor series (The Ones).
“High headroom three-way with unbelievable imaging. The 8341A is the point source monitor with the perfect blend of size and performance”
We’ll get to the SAM™ (Smart Active Monitoring) features in a moment. Let’s first look at the extraordinary amount of air-moving components jammed into an 8341A monitor.
Coaxial Tri-Amplified
The bits you can immediately see in the front of this monitor are all to do with the High Frequency and Midrange. The 3½” midrange cone and 3/4″ metal dome HF are in a coaxial format. Class-D amplifiers take care of the horsepower, with 150w going each to the midrange and treble.
But what about the bass? There are two bass drivers, in the form of oval cones – 170 x 90mm – powered with 250w of Class-D. On the back you’ll find comprehensive manual control of the speaker via dip switches. There is also analogue and AES/EBU inputs via XLR, along with RJ45 for the GLM network.
GLM – Genelec Loudspeaker Management software is an intuitive and powerful monitor control networking system that manages connectivity to all SAM™ studio monitors and subwoofers on your network. The software allows adjustment of levels, distance delays and flexible room response compensation equalisation with the state-of-the-art and robust AutoCal™ automated calibration system. All parameters and settings are stored in system setup files or saved in each individual monitor or sub if the GLM network needs to be disconnected.
