The MMC4015 capsule is part of the flexible DPA Reference Standard series.
The 4015A with the MMP-A preamplifier suits acoustic instruments and voices with rich and open sound, where the 4015C with the MMP-C compact preamplifier is an excellent spot mic as a fill-in between an omni and a cardioid - and easier to position.
Sometimes a conventional cardioid pattern just isn't quite open enough, such as when recording instruments with complex radiation patterns. In those instances, the generous polar pattern of wide cardioids allows you to pick up a broader sound field and more accurately capture the full breadth of a stirring performance.
Other capsules in DPA Reference Standard series include: MMC4006 (omni), MMC4011 (cardioid), MMC4017 (shotgun), and the new 'twin capsule' 2000 series: MMC2006 (omni), MMC2011 (cardioid).
