The first thing you’ll notice about Rode NTG5 shotgun mic is that it’s seriously light, at just 76g.
Released at the end of 2019, NTG5 looks quite different to the other mics in the Rode NTG range, with circular ports replacing the linear slots typically found in other shotgun mics.
Combined with a tightly controlled frequency response, smooth off-axis response, and very low self-noise (just 10dBA), NTG5 sounds ‘just right’ in a wide variety of applications, particularly location recording and demanding filmmaking scenarios where superlative audio is the only option.
Being just 76g, NTG5 is a boom operator’s dream. It measures just over 20cm and also features RF-bias circuitry to ensure reliable performance in adverse environments, with excellent resistance to high humidity, severe cold, damp, and dust.
Unlike many of its peers, Rode NTG5 is a “location recording kit”, with the accessory list including a pistol grip (with suspension), along with foam windshield and fluffy windshield. See below for a full included accessory list.
