Zoom Q4n is a mighty ‘minimum size, maximum results’ video and audio package.
In our field, the undisupted king of adventure cameras – GoPro – offers a simple camera with excellent waterproof performance. This Zoom Q4n offers none of the water-friendly performance, but it’s tiny, and the audio is typically brilliant…with an extra trick up it’s sleeve.
2 min video is worth your viewing
If you are getting closer to working out if Q4n is for you (or not), check out the 2 min clip on our video tab below. It’ll be worth your while.
Like the smaller Q2n, has a wide-angle lens, 10 preset ‘scene’ options for different lighting environments (plus five steps of digital zoom), and built-in microphones.
What’s better?
The two microphones can be left in ‘A-B’ mode, or elevated and swivelled into ‘X-Y’ mode. The choice of mic patterns, coupled with a huge SPL handling (140dB max), make Q4n a legitimate choice for audio recording, with the added bonus of a great camera with five HD video modes, up to 2304 x 1296 pixels (3M HD) ready to grab the magic.
Zoom Q4n is never going to be a sophisticated DSLR with all the bells and whistles, but if your choice of compact camera is ‘adventure’ or Q4n, it’s a pretty clear choice for most musicans, teachers, sound engineers and YouTubers.
